Contest Rules

wouldurather... Official Contest Rules 2017-2018

The following rules apply to ALL wouldurather... contestants.

Contest Period and Important Dates

Registration

Registration for each eligible entrant must be completed between 12:01am on November 15, 2017 and 11:59pm on January 28, 2018.

Contest

The 6-week contest begins at 12:01am on January 29, 2018 and ends at 11:59pm on March 11, 2018.

Contest Rules by Category

Quit For Good Contestants

Before the contest, contestants must:

  • Meet eligibility criteria for the Quit For Good category
  • Submit a fully complete registration form online by the time/date indicated in ‘important dates’.

During the contest period contestants must:

  • Quit using commercial tobacco, and remain tobacco-free (tobacco-free is defined as no use of any commercial tobacco products such as: cigarettes, cigarillos, cigars, pipes, chewing tobacco, snuff, and/or snus) during the entire contest period from January 29th to March 11th (or until all winners are confirmed for this contest as described below). Quitting aids such as nicotine replacement therapy (patch, gum) and/or prescription medications are allowed.
  • Respond within 24 hours if they are contacted by Leave The Pack Behind.

Any eligible Quit For Good contestant who meets these criteria will earn one (1) entry into the random prize draw for the Grand Prize.

Contestants are strongly encouraged to refrain from using other substances that may contain nicotine (e.g., marijuana or shisha) during the entire contest period from January 29th to March 11th (or until all winners are confirmed for this contest as described below). Use of these products may result in disqualification from the Grand Prize.

Quitting aids such as nicotine replacement therapy (patch, gum) and/or prescription medications are allowed.

Keep The Count Contestants

Before the contest, contestants must:

  • Meet eligibility criteria for the Keep The Count category
  • Submit a fully complete registration form online by the time/date indicated in ‘important dates’.

During the contest period contestants must:

  • Cut back their use of commercial tobacco products by 50% from January 29th to March 11th (or until all winners are confirmed for this contest as described below). For example, if a contestant regularly smokes 20 cigarettes a day, they may not smoke more than 10 cigarettes per day for the contest period. Quitting aids such as nicotine replacement therapy (patch, gum) and/or prescription medications are allowed.
  • Respond within 24 hours if they are contacted by Leave The Pack Behind.

Any eligible Keep The Count contestant who meets these criteria will earn one (1) entry into the random prize draw for the Grand Prize.

Quitting aids such as nicotine replacement therapy (patch, gum) and/or prescription medications are allowed.

Party Without The Smoke Contestants

Before the contest, contestants must:

  • Meet eligibility criteria for the Party Without The Smoke category
  • Submit a fully complete registration form online by the time/date indicated in ‘important dates’.

During the contest period contestants must:

  • Not use commercial tobacco or tobacco alternative products of any kind while drinking alcohol from January 29th to March 11th (or until all winners are confirmed for this contest as described below). In this category, contestants may choose to not use tobacco products (defined as: cigarettes, cigarillos, cigars, pipes, chewing tobacco, snuff, and/or snus) and/or tobacco alternative products (defined as: marijuana or shisha). Contestants may still smoke, and they may still drink alcohol, but they will not do the two behaviours together. Quitting aids such as nicotine replacement therapy (patch, gum) and/or prescription medications are allowed.
  • Respond within 24 hours if they are contacted by Leave The Pack Behind.

Any eligible Party Without The Smoke contestant who meets these criteria will earn one (1) entry into the random prize draw for the Grand Prize.

In this category, contestants may choose to not use tobacco products (defined as: cigarettes, cigarillos, cigars, pipes, chewing tobacco, snuff, and/or snus) and/or tobacco alternative products (defined as: marijuana or shisha). Contestants may still use tobacco and/or tobacco alternative products, and they may still drink alcohol, but they will not do the two behaviours together.

Quitting aids such as nicotine replacement therapy (patch, gum) and/or prescription medications are allowed.

Don't Start and Win Contestants

Before the contest, contestants must

  • Meet eligibility criteria for the Don't Start and Win category
  • Submit a fully complete registration form online by the time/date indicated in ‘important dates’.

During the contest period contestants must:

  • Continue to be tobacco-free (tobacco-free is defined as no use of any commercial tobacco products such as: cigarettes, cigarillos, cigars, pipes, chewing tobacco, snuff, and/or snus) from January 29th to March 11th (or until all winners are confirmed for this contest as described below).
  • Respond within 24 hours if they are contacted by Leave The Pack Behind.

Any eligible Don't Start & Win contestant who meets these criteria will earn one (1) entry into the random prize draw for the Grand Prize.

Contestants are strongly encouraged to refrain from using other substances that may contain nicotine (e.g., marijuana or shisha) during the entire contest period from January 29th to March 11th (or until all winners are confirmed for this contest as described below). Prize Draw and Prize Conditions for the Grand Prize

The following conditions, notification, verification, and declaration rules apply to wouldurather... Grand Prizes.

Grand Prizes

Two (2) Grand Prizes of $2,500 cash will be awarded to two eligible Quit For Good contestants.

Two (2) Grand Prizes of $1,000 cash will be awarded to two eligible Keep The Count contestants.

Two (2) Grand Prizes of $500 cash will be awarded to two eligible Party Without The Smoke contestants.

Two (2) Grand Prizes of $250 cash will be awarded to two eligible Don't Start & Win contestants.

Prize Conditions

An entrant can win (i) One Grand Prize for the one (1) category he/she registered for (in accordance with these rules); and/or (ii) any campus-specific prizes awarded by the institution that the entrant attends as indicated by the entrant during registration.

Grand Prize Draw

On March 12th, 2018 (the ‘draw date’), a series of random draws for the Grand Prizes will be conducted by a representative of Leave The Pack Behind. Two (2) eligible entrants will be selected by random draw among all eligible entrants in accordance with these rules for each of the four (4) categories. The entrants drawn in each category will be eligible to win the Grand Prize associated with that category (subject to compliance with these rules).

Winner Notification, Verification and Declaration

Notification

Leave The Pack Behind will contact the selected entrants using the phone number provided by the entrant at registration. Leave The Pack Behind will make four (4) attempts to contact each selected entrant by phone within 24 hours of selection. If a selected entrant cannot be contacted within the time frame stipulated above, the selected entrant will be disqualified and Leave The Pack Behind reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to randomly select an alternate eligible entrant from among the remaining eligible entries in accordance with the procedures outlined above.

Verification & Declaration: All Categories

Before being declared a winner, each selected entrant will be required to:

  • submit a fully complete contestant declaration form within 24 hours of notification as instructed by Leave The Pack Behind at the time of notification.
  • ensure a fully complete buddy declaration form is submitted within 24 hours of notification as instructed by Leave The Pack Behind at the time of notification. The buddy declaration form will be completed by either i) the buddy (support person) identified by the selected entrant at the time of registration or ii) a buddy (support person) identified by the selected entrant at the time of notification.

By signing their declaration forms, the selected entrant and their buddy (i) confirm compliance with these rules; (ii) acknowledges acceptance of the prize as awarded; (iii) releases Leave The Pack Behind, Brock University, the prize sponsor, and each of their respective representatives from any and all liability in connection with this contest, the selected entrant’s participation in the contest, and/or the awarding and use/misuse of the prize or any portion thereof; and (iv) agrees to the publication, reproduction and/or other use of the selected entrant’s/buddy’s name, city of residence or campus and program of study, age, voice, statements about the contest and his/her smoking/quitting experiences and/or photograph or other likeness without further notice or compensation, in any publicity or advertisement carried out by Leave The Pack Behind or the prize sponsor in any manner whatsoever, including print, broadcast or the internet. If a selected entrant (or his/her corresponding buddy) fails to return the properly executed contest documents within the specified time then the selected entrant will be disqualified and Leave The Pack Behind reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to randomly select an alternate eligible entrant from among the remaining eligible contestants in accordance with the rules outlined above.

For Quit For Good only

The selected entrants for the Quit For Good Grand Prizes will be required to take a urine test to be administered by DriverCheck at a mutually convenient location in Ontario within 2-3 days following notification for the purposes of verifying his/her tobacco-free status. The selected entrants will need to remain tobacco-free until after testing is completed, and while testing results are evaluated, which can take up to 3-weeks. Please note, we strongly recommend that all entrants remain tobacco-free until after the winners are formally announced, since alternate eligible entrants may need to be selected in accordance with these rules. If a selected entrant fails his/her urine test (as determined by Leave The Pack Behind), even if the tobacco-use was following March 12th, 2018, then he/she will be disqualified and Leave The Pack Behind reserves the right to randomly select an alternate eligible entrant from among the remaining eligible contestants in accordance with the rules outlined above.
